A recent survey has been conducted on whether parents feel honored about their children in Zhonghua School. What is symbolically depicted in the bar chart above is that 80% parents regard their children as pride, while, to our surprise, only 60 in every hundred students hold the same viewpoint. Such a striking contrast is there between the two perspectives that it reveals a common phenomenon. Parents and children hold different attitudes towards the issue. From where I am standing, two reasons are responsible for the finding. First and foremost, with the increasingly fierce competition, teenagers are prone to suffering from the sense of inferiority. What additionally frustrates the children is peer pressure from parents. Chances are that the adults are inclined to gossip and compare with other friends about the academic performance of their children. Apart from it, a lack of communication between parents and children is also a key factor contributing to the difference. Proud as parents feel of their children, they remain too shy to praise or give compliments. Meanwhile, children seem to abide by every command from their parents and accept the negative comments without saying a word, which triggers their self-accusation of failing to live up to the adults’ high expectations. From what has been mentioned above, it is fierce competition and lack of communication that give rise to the phenomenon. Only by mutual trust and understanding can children feel the importance and pride attached to them.

According to the information on admission ticket, the high-profile attraction “Ancient City” charges a $15 entrance fee per foreign tourist—amazingly threefold that of the locals. As far as I am concerned, I contend that this practice is quite unreasonable.

First and foremost, as for the foreign tourists coming from afar, the striking difference in entrance fee may result in resentment of unfairness. Even worse,they may feeldiscriminated against.

Further more, if foreign tourists realize that they would have to pay much more to visita worldwide historical and cultural relics, they would perhaps decide not to go to the country on vacation. As they lose their visiting interest, it will definitely causea considerable local economic loss, especially in tourist industry. That is why I viewthe difference in charge as a rather short sighted move.

What’s worth mentioning most isthatthe Ancient City is one of the world cultural heritage sites, which belongs to all mankind. Therefore, the overemphasis on regionalization should be abandoned.Instead, local government is ought to be more welcoming to visitors from all over the world.

As for me, I propose narrowingthe fee gap to improve the guiding service for foreign tourists or making the difference in charge be reflected in caring for the weak not in nationality,such as half price for the elder or the disabled.

To sum up, every effort should be made to attract tourists from overseas and to promote cultural relics. Canceling or narrowing the price gap is imperative.
