一、商务英语书信写作的特点

商务英语书信作为外贸业务往来的主要交流方式,有着自身的特色:1.独特的语言风格和用语;2.贸易术语、缩略语和缩写语使用频繁;3.内容与外贸业务实践密切相关。相应的,商务英语书信的行文特点可大致概括为“七C”特点: Consideration(周全);Courtesy(礼貌);Clarity(清楚);Conciseness(简洁);Correctness(正确);Concreteness(确切);Completeness(完整);因书信为两公司之间的交流平台,若在用词或表达上有任何失误,将有伤双方感情甚至造成巨大损失,因此商务英语书信的撰写切忌大意马虎。

二、学习商务英语写作过程中常见问题

学生在学习商务英语书信写作的过程中往往因为自身知识及语言积累方面的限制,犯一些语篇或用语方面的错误,现将其总结如下:

1.书信结构不合理,重点不突出

根据“七C”原则,商务英语书信写作必须注意开门见山,说明来函意图,且每封信函需主要围绕一个主题进行展开,突出重点,避免结构松散或主题不突出。

2.口语化表达严重

语言环境的影响,大部分的高职商务英语专业的学生书面内容口语化。商务英语书信为正式文体,其实质为一种商业书面谈判,自然应采用书面语,遵循“正式、礼貌、克制”的特点。但由于学生的语言知识限制及平时用语习惯的限制,会出现很多普遍存在的问题。例如: feel regret that we can’t accept your terms of payment.这是商务英语书信写作初学者最常犯的错误之一。英文书面文体中应尽量避免出现缩写形式。缩写即将两个词合二为一(如don’t;isn’t;won’t等),这是一种不规范的写法,若误用于正式文体则会给人一种不正规、不严肃、不礼貌的感觉。正确的用法应为:We feel regret that we cannot accept your terms of are interested in selling our bike,we are glad.一个完整的句子被拆散为两部分,结构有欠严谨,不符合正式文体的要求,感觉更偏向口语化。建议调整结构,增加连接词,将其合二为一,同时,将日常用语中常用的“bike”改为正式用语“bicycle”,效果更好:We are glad that your are interested in selling our are dead sure it will meet with warm reception in your country.“dead sure”是口语表达,起加强语气的作用,表示“完全相信;绝对相信”的意识。此种常用口语表达应在书信中避免。此句可改为:We are sure our bicycle will have a ready market at your end.

3.敬语缺失

商务英语书信的一大特点是“有理有节”。作为贸易双方谈判的方式,在措辞上要注意既要维护自身的利益及尊严,又要考虑到对方的感受,因此必须字斟句酌,以免伤了感情甚至坏了生意。初学者大多没有商场上的经验,所以在这方面容易忽略,有措词过于唐突之嫌。

4.专业术语表达有误

商务英语中有不少商业术语,如若不能很好把握其表达方法,极易造成对方误解或不理解,给谈判双方带来诸多不便,甚至会导致贸易损失。因此,在术语表达上切不可马虎大意,应三思而后下笔。

5.选词搭配不合理

商务英语中有不少固定词组,若能很好运用则可使书信锦上添花,反之则会弄巧成拙。如:We are much obliged to your great efforts in selling our products.“obliged”是商务英语中的一个常用词,常用于表示感谢或有责任做某事。该词在此句中应为感谢之意。其搭配应为be obliged tosomebody for something或be obliged by something,因此,此句正确表达应为:We are much obliged to your for your great efforts in selling our much obliged by your great efforts in selling our products.

初学者在进行商务英语书信写作时常见问题还有语法错误、句式变化少、表达不够地道有中文表达痕迹等等。建议初学者在练习写作过程中多多学习运用商务英语的惯常表达方式及句型,注意专业术语使用的正确性,突出重点,时刻牢记商务英语书信写作的“七C”特点,尽量避免任何即使是细微的错误。

三、错误产生的原因

1.母语负迁移

我们的学生在外语学习之前已经具有相当的母语基础和固定的语言表述习惯,往往会自然不自然地将这些表达带到英语写作中。当母语表述与目的语不一致时就会造成写作方面的错误。任何的新知识、技巧、技能的学习都会受到已有知识、技能、技巧的影响。当我们的母语知识与目的语知识一致时就形成正迁移,此时我们母语知识的相关内容就自然地转移到目标语言的学习之中;当母语知识与目标语言知识不同时,就形成母语的干扰,也叫负迁移(negative transfer),此时就出现了典型的母语式表达,学习者往往根据母语规则作出错误的推理。

2.高职学生语言基本功不牢

从我们统计的错误类别来看,学生们大量的表现在词汇、语法层面。不少学生往往有较为丰富的思想,但是主要问题在于如何用英语把他们的思想、观点、意见准确、流畅地表达出来。大量语言错误反映了学生语言运用能力的低下,学生们在英语写作中可谓信马由缰,全然不顾遣词造句的正确与否,对于英汉表达方式的差异也全然不顾。更有甚者,有的学生就连基本的词、句表述都问题连篇。因此,学生们写出的段落、文章所用词汇单一、错误百出也就不足为奇了。

这个纪录片的全名叫做《如何死亡——西蒙的选择》。不用多解释,你就知道,片子中的主角名字叫西蒙。西蒙拍片子的时候57岁,这个年龄应该说正值盛年。对于一般人来说,这个年龄把子女养大了,老人送走了,正是自我实现、享受生活的好年华,离死亡,还有很远的距离。

但是西蒙不一样。57岁的西蒙发现自己患上了一种病——运动神经元疾病。也就是我们通常所说的渐冻人症。这种病的发病概率只有十万分之一,生存期为半年到两年不等,对于这种病,医生们至今没有找到好的办法,只能等待病人自然死亡。笑笑的一个朋友说过,一个人如果失去了健康,也就失去了尊严。片子中的西蒙就有这样的体会。

在这种情况下,西蒙深切地体会到了生不如死的滋味。于是他向家人提出,让他有尊严地去死,并且去意已决。

在家人的支持下,西蒙选择在他生日的时候离开这个世界。

在这个凡事均可预约的世界,预约死亡却是一件令人悲伤的事情。我们常常说,唯有生死不能选择,但在这部片子中,西蒙却选择某一天结束自己的生命。不是他太懦弱,而且他的世界实在太残酷。

放弃的代价

话说当西蒙去意已决时,他把自己的事情安排得井井有条,一切按部就班地进行。

他在社交媒体上早就公布了自己的死亡日期,并且举办了特别的人生告别会,他的同学、朋友、亲人都来参加。他们与西蒙拥抱话别,甚至庆祝、举杯,一切看起来不悲不戚。而西蒙表现得只是像要出一趟远门,而不是从此不能再见。

商务英语,从语言载体的角度来讲,是商务环境中应用的英语,它属于专门用途英语(ESP)的一种。

商务英语教学重点在商务环境。

商务英语写作是其中的重要组成部分,商务英语写作的目的不仅要使读者明白,更重要的是让读者对你的产品感兴趣,愿意与你建立业务联系,这才是商务英语在高职高专院校所要培养的人才目标。

2.教师教商务英语写作课的教学现状

从招生现状来看,高职类院校的学生英语基础差。

近来来,各高职院校的老师不断探索和完善商务英语写作课的教学方法,各种各样的教学方法取得了显著的效果。

1.任务型教学法

任务型语言学习理论是20世纪80年代外语教学研究者提出来的一个具有重要影响的语言学习理论模式。

在教学原则上,它提倡“意义至上,使用至上”。

任务式语言教学法以其“以学生为中心、注重交际”等特点正成为高校英语教学模式的新选择。

商务信函极其讲究逻辑的缜密性,中心思想明确,句与句之间紧密相连。

逻辑合理、结构完整、表达得体、语言规范的写作,有必要运用“词块”教学法。

词块是指一个具有一定结构、表达一定意义的预制的多词单位,它以整体形式被记忆储存,并在即时交际时被整体提取。

商务英语写作词块包括多词组合、习惯搭配/限制性短语、惯用表达式和句子框架。

教师在教学过程中加强词汇和句式教学,在课堂上针对性地讲授写作常用语言、短语和句式。

通过词块训练,有利于学生掌握地道的商务英语信函语言和商务英语信函语篇的结构等。

除此之外,还有别的一些传统和刚刚兴起的教学法应用在写作过程中。

如:侧重于成果的成果教学法 ,侧重于过程的过程写作教学法,学生进行角色扮演的交际教学法等等。

3.多媒体辅助教学

现在教学中必不可少的多媒体对商务英语写作来讲也有着非常重要的作用。

据外贸工作人员介绍,目前商务交流98%使用的是E-MAIL。

因此,利用电脑这一现代化的智能工具,通过多媒体网络,教授学生如何写好商务信件、协议、制作单据,运用网络有效地处理业务,培养学生在网络商务业务中的工作能力与应变能力成为教学的主要任务之一。

多媒体能产生如下效果:形象生动,容易激发学生学习兴趣;提高学生外贸业务往来函电中的实际操作能力;通过网上模拟外贸业务情景有利于课后学生自主学习能力的培养等,真正做到和实践相结合,给企业提供实践性人才。

2.句子不要零碎。

3.结构对称,令人容易理解。

4.单复数不要搞乱,不然会好刺眼,看着不舒服。

例如: An authorized person must show that they have security clearance. 应改为 Authorized persons must show that they have security clearance.

5.动词和主语要呼应,

想想这两个句子的分别:

2. This is one of the public-relations functions, which are under-budgeted.

6.时态和语气不要转换太多。看商务英语已经是苦事,不要浪费人家的精力啊。

7.标点要准确。

例如: He did not make repairs, however, he continued to monitor the equipment. 应改为: He did not make repairs; however, he continued to monitor the equipment.

8.选词正确。像affect和effect,operative和operational等等就要弄清楚才好用啦。

9.拼字正确。有电脑拼字检查功能后,就更加不能偷懒。

10.大小写要注意。除非必要不要整个词都大写,除非要骂人。

例如: MUST change to OS immediately. 外国人就觉得不礼貌和喝令人一样。要强调的话,用底线,斜字,粗体就可以了。

如同一般信函,商业信文一般由开头、正文、结尾、署名、日期等5个部分组成。

(1)开头

开头写收信人或收信单位的称呼。称呼单独占行、顶格书写,称呼后用冒号。

(2)正文

信文的正文是书信的主要部分,叙述商业业务往来联系的实质问题,通常包括:

①向收信人问候;

②写信的事由,例如何时收到对方的来信,表示谢意,对于来信中提到的问题答复等等;

③该信要进行的业务联系,如询问有关事宜,回答对方提出的问题,阐明自己的想法或看法,向对方提出要求等。如果既要向对方询问,又要回答对方的询问,则先答后问,以示尊重;

④提出进一步联系的希望、方式和要求。

(3)结尾

结尾往往用简单的一两句话,写明希望对方答复的要求。如“特此函达,即希函复。”同时写表示祝愿或致敬的话,如“此致敬礼”、“敬祝健康”等。祝语一般分为两行书写,“此致”、“敬祝”可紧随正文,也可和正文空开。“敬礼”、“健康”则转行顶格书写。

(4)署名

署名即写信人签名,通常写在结尾后另起一行(或空一、二行)的偏右下方位置。以单位名义发出的商业信函,署名时可写单位名称或单位内具体部门名称,也可同时署写信人的姓名。重要的商业信函,为郑重起见,也可加盖公章。

(5)日期

写信日期—般写在署名的下一行或同一行偏右下方位置。商业信函的日期很重要,不要遗漏。
